Got the results from our sampling. Our findings verified that we have changed 8 sites out of 9 upward on soil organic matter (SOM) for the surface 4 inches. Two years ago our SOM was running 1.7 to 2.7 depending upon where we were on the field. Today with continuous strip-tilled corn we jumped up at the lowest 2.0 to a high of 3.5%. As said, one site where we have a corn-soybean rotation, SOM dropped to 2.1% and was 2.2% 2 years earlier. All other sites changed 0.1 to 0.2% each year which is what we expect in continuous corn. Carbon sequestration and carbon crediting is a viable thing with strip-till folks. It does work!!!
