George Rehm, Univ. of Minnesota soil scientists notes; ” In past trials, urea applied in a band at a depth of 4 inches below the row in the previous fall caused reduction in emergence of the corn planted at a depth of 1.5 inches. The results of these trials suggest the rate of nitrogen applied in a band at a distance of 2 inches or less from the seed should be less than 50 lbs per acre.”
