Now 20 days after emergence the top quality hybrids we plant at the Orthman Research Farm near Lexington, Nebraska are off and running. Carrying out population counts this week and I felt as though the newcomers to strip-till would like to compare how corn looks in the Platte River Valley. We loaded up to plant 34,000 seeds and my counts are 32,400-33,100 in the varieties we planted are larger and heavier seeds. The smaller seeds this year I am counting over 34,000 plants that have emerged.

As always seed size and weight makes a difference ladies and gentlemen when we plant even with new plates in the planter. Our planter is in very good condition, however seed size has quite a role in how population will turn out. Strip-Till offers a great seedbed and we are extremely pleased.
